Porsche: An Inside Look

There is a a reason why the tag line for Porsche is, "There is no substitute". The best of the German manufacturers, they have amassed the most number of wins in the racing scene (and have been on the track for a long long time). With humble beginnings, it took a while for Porsche to become the powerhouse it is today. 

The history of the Porsche company began long before Ferdinand Porsche thought of starting his own auto manufacturing business. As a young engineer, he designed the first electric/gasoline hybrid - in 1900. Over his career, he worked with Daimler, Mercedes, Daimler-Benz, Volkswagen, Auto Union, and others for nearly 50 years. His independent design firm was even responsible for the creation of the Volkswagen Beetle in 1931. We won't go into more detail about the different models Porsche has created over the years but it all began with the their first model, the 356 in the late 1940s (1948). 

Porsche is most known for their bread and butter model, the iconic 911, which was introduced way back in 1963. There have been multiple iterations of the 911 model (and variations too like the Turbo, GT2, GT3, GT3RS, GT2RS etc.) but their unmistakable shape has essentially remained the same. Today Porsche is at the forefront of innovation, not just in manufacturing and motor racing but in the use of green technology as well. Their ability to fuse together break neck performance while consuming resources comparable to some of the tiniest vehicles has catapulted Porsche to the top of the charts in the world market. On one hand you can do 200mph and on the other you can putter around town getting over 20 miles per gallon. How's that for efficiency? It is not a simple process this, and here is an inside look of the Porsche factories where the 911 is produced.
